10Days Guided Birding in Rwanda

Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by our driver guide for a briefing about your upcoming birdwatching safari. And transferred to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay at Galaxy Hotel.

At 5:00am after breakfast, depart for Akagera National Park. enjoy a morning birding and game drive, where you may spot species like Shoebill, Grey Crowned Crane, African Fish Eagle and various water birds, along with wildlife like buffaloes and giraffes. In the late afternoon from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm, take a sunset boat cruise on Lake Ihema to observe aquatic birds, hippopotamuses, and crocodiles. Dinner and overnight at Akagera Game Lodge

After breakfast, explore the northern part of the park with a game drive and birdwatching session. Expect to see elephants, waterbucks, and bird species like Crested Barbet. Late evening from 5:30 Pm until 8:00pm, enjoy a night game drive to spot nocturnal animals and night birds. Dinner and overnight at Karenge Bush Camp.

From 5:30am to 9:00 am, begin the day with an early morning birding and game drive. Return to the camp for breakfast, then depart at 10:30 am with packed lunch as you enjoy a final game drive en route to Kigali. Dinner and overnight at Galaxy Hotel.

At 5:30am early morning departure to Bugesera wetlands for birding, targeting papyrus species such as Papyrus Gonolek and Papyrus Canary. After a short break, continue with a scenic drive (approximately 6 hours) to Nyungwe National Park. Dinner and overnight at Ken Barham Guest House.

After breakfast at 6:30 am, embark on a full day of birding in Nyungwe Forest. Look out for Albertine Rift endemics such as Doherty’s Bush-shrike, Rwenzori Batis, and Regal Sunbird. Break for lunch at midday, then continue birding in the afternoon from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm. Dinner and overnight at Ken Barham Guest House.

Spend the day birding along the Ndambarare and Ikaze trails. Target species include the Great Blue Turaco, Willard’s Sooty Boubou, Evergreen Forest Warbler, and African Green Pigeon. Dinner and overnight at Ken Barham Guest House.

After breakfast, head to the Bigugu Trail in search of the Red-collared Mountain Babbler and other high-altitude species. Take a break for lunch before continuing birding in the afternoon on a different trail. Dinner and overnight at Ken Barham Guest House.

Enjoy a final morning birding session in Nyungwe until lunchtime. In the afternoon, drive back to Kigali (approximately 5–6 hours). Dinner and overnight at Galaxy Hotel.

At 7:00am begin the day with birding at Nyandungu Eco-Tourism Park, a restored urban wetland rich in birdlife. After lunch, visit local craft and souvenir shops before transferring to the airport for your evening departure flight.
